PrivTTS Privacy Policy

PrivTTS ("the app," "we," "our") is a text-to-speech reading app. This policy explains what happens to your data when you use it.

The short version

PrivTTS converts text to speech entirely on your device. We do not collect, transmit, sell, or share your text, documents, voice recordings of you (we never access your microphone), usage history, or any other personal data. The app does not require an account, login, or any personal information to function.

What data PrivTTS accesses on your device

• Text you provide. Text you paste, type, or import (from TXT, DOCX, RTF, or PDF files you choose via your device's file picker) is processed and converted to speech locally, on your device's processor. It is never uploaded to us or to any third party, and we have no server that could receive it even if we wanted to.
• Files you import. When you use the "Import file" feature, PrivTTS reads the file you explicitly select through the operating system's document picker. PrivTTS does not browse, index, or access other files on your device.
• Playback state. Reading position, selected voice, and playback speed are stored locally on your device (e.g., to resume where you left off) and are never transmitted anywhere.

What PrivTTS does not do

• We do not use your microphone. PrivTTS has no audio recording capability — it only plays synthesized speech back to you.
• We do not require or request an account, email address, or sign-in of any kind.
• We do not use third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs.
• We do not transmit your text, documents, or usage data to us or to any third party, because the app has no backend server to send it to.
• We do not use your data to build any kind of profile, and we cannot, because we never receive it.

Diagnostics

PrivTTS may record basic technical information locally on your device (such as how long an operation took, or a generic error code) purely to help the app function correctly (e.g., detecting a failed synthesis attempt so it can be retried). This diagnostic information never includes the content of your text or documents, is stored only on your device, and is not transmitted to us.

Subscriptions

If PrivTTS offers a paid "Pro" tier, purchases are handled entirely by Apple's App Store / In-App Purchase system. We do not receive or store your payment information — Apple's own privacy policy governs that transaction.

Children's privacy

PrivTTS does not knowingly collect any personal data from anyone, including children, because it does not collect personal data from any user. The app is not directed at children specifically but contains no age-inappropriate content by design (it reads back whatever text the user provides).

Third-party open-source components

PrivTTS uses on-device, open-source speech synthesis models (see in-app Settings → Acknowledgements for the current list and their licenses). These run entirely on your device and do not transmit any data anywhere.

Changes to this policy

If PrivTTS's data practices change (for example, if a future version adds cloud sync, an account system, or analytics), we will update this policy before that version is released and update the effective date above.
